It also recognized the dispute on an appointment at the monument to Martin Luther King, Jr. in Washington, D.C., which is being changed after criticism that did not reflect correctly the words of the activist killed.
"What he said really is that all of us can be an engine for the service, for Justice," said Obama. "There is nobody that can not contribute, to not assist someone else".
On Monday is also the first that visitors can u000acelebrate Martin Luther King day in her monument, inaugurated in August last.
The monument celebrates the ideals defended by King. A statue of nine meters (30 feet) shows King as a "rock of hope" emerging "a mountain of despair", a design inspired by his famous speech "I have a dream".
After meeting with volunteers, the Obama went to the library of the school to help assemble booksellers and for reading with students. The President and first lady painted two quotes from King on the walls of the library
Obama stood on a Chair and carefully painted in blue the phrase: "Is always good time to do well." The first lady painted the words: "I have a dream".
This is the third consecutive year in which the Obama participate in a community service in the U.S. in honor of King holiday
