One American killed and 28 injured in bus crash near Higuey

One American was killed and 28 were injured when their Metro tourist bus collided with a jeep. The accident also caused the death of a Dominican woman travelling in the jeep.
Only one of the Americans now remains in hospital although the bus driver, Juan Manuel Inirio, had to have an arm amputated, according to Virgilio Cedano, who runs the clinic where the injured were treated .
The accident occurred at 6:00pm Tuesday, about 12 kilometres from the town of Higuey when the tourists were returning to Bavaro from the village of Bayahibe in La Romana, in eastern Dominican Republic.
The collision with the jeep caused the deaths of Robert Jude Sochia from the USA and Katerine Altagracia Cruz from the Dominican Republic. Some of the injured have been named in the local media as; Agnieska Jaczy, Ted Miller, Judith Willowy, James Brooks, Susane laine Hull, Darlynn and Theodore Berisof, Lois Pruet, Sochia Brenda, Barry Kreister, John Carter, Andrew Plewa, Jacqueline Beem, Eaysa Makler, Barbara Miller, Andrea Rea, Been Scott and Isacak Maycler.
