He said the second Metro line is nearly 50 percent completed, which runs from Avenida Luperon to the west bank of the Francisco del Rosario Sánchez bridge. The work was cut short as it was initially suggested that the line continue on to San Isidro.
He said the cost of the project was set at US$700 million and yet US$13 million has already been allocated from this year's budget.
He was speaking at the announcement of the two companies who have won the bid to complete the Metro's second line. 18 national and international companies took part in the bidding process.
The winning companies were EURODOM Consortium from Germany, France, Belgium and Spain and the French company Alstom Transport.
With regard to the claim that residents of La Zurza are to be relocated, Peña said his commitment was to relocate fifty families which has already been done. A further one hundred remaining families were not scheduled to be relocated.
