Park at your Peril in Puerto Plata!
posted on: Feb 2 2010 16:15 by Royston. Viewed 227 times.Drivers leaving their vehicles parked in a dangerous way in Puerto Plata have been returning to find their car has been towed away.

Expats and visitors may have thought they had left this nightmare behind at the airport in their home country, but a joint operation between the Municipal Police and the City Transport Department was carried out on streets; Jose Ramon Lopez, Professor Juan Bosch, Villanueva, Padre Castellanos and other central roads.
After this initial crackdown organized by Mayor Walter Musa, vehicles were returned to their owners without charge. Nothing more than warnings and requests for co-operation in future were issued.
However, it was announced that the operation will continue and owners of vehicles parked in violation of Act 241 and subsequently towed away will be asked to pay the relevant penalties, including a charge for the use of the crane used to effect the removal.
So if you go to Puerto Plata and park on a yellow line, double park, or leave your car in that nice shady spot under the “No Estacione” sign, expect to be contributing to the local council’s income for this year!

so they tow away cars for minor parking infringements, but motos going through red lights, the wrong way down a one-way and swerving all over the place is ok?
Jeez, get some priorities!
how about Dominicans start obeying the basic traffic regs, then worry about the parking.

no education, no license, no insurace, not road worthy etc. a clamping down on moto's and Dominican's behind the wheel would make the counrty a lot safer, and not just another gringo cash grab

lol - not sure you can clamp down on "Dominican's behind the wheel" - it is the Dominican Republic!
