Participation proposes electoral prosecutors penalize parties

After notice that the entry of money from drug trafficking to the parties constitutes a threat to democracy, citizen participation, civil society organization proposed the creation of prosecutors pursuing crimes electoral political parties.

The general coordinator of the institution, Samir Chami Isa, and the executive director, Javier Cabreja, asked political parties to make their finances transparent to avoid the use of money from drug trafficking in this political campaign.

During the panel "Drug trafficking and washes of asset financing Dominican Republic politician" Cabreja suggested include political parties in the laundering law within the reforms that they must produce in that device legal.

Cabreja considered that the penalties for the violation of the Electoral law, are very benign and therefore favoured a modification of the device, the adoption of the Bill u000aParties and at the same time create election prosecutors to enforce the laws and that they "did not remain dead letter".

On their side, Chami Isa, he said that political parties are entities of public interest so that every citizen has the right to know about their actions and controlling the resources available.

During his speech Chami Isa added that political parties need to identify clearly who finances their activities and what are invested these resources.

ISA pointed out that the Electoral law, articles 48, 49 and 50, stipulates that parties must give an account of the resources received by the State.

Pointed out that according to the u000aexisting legal provisions allow assistance or economic contribution of natural persons and legal national private and explicitly prohibits "the acceptance of material aid of economic groups, Governments and foreign institutions and individuals involved in illegal activities".

Also recalled that the Central Electoral Board has the "right to cancel any operation which has knowledge and temporarily seize or take any measure precautionary with the help of the public force with respect to any property, or to cease immediately any misuse of the resources of the State".
