this was revealed yesterday the President of the Board of the hospital, Dr. Julio Amado Castaños Guzmán, who complained of the little support that has had that program by the State, despite the fact that this means that he has saved his life 127 people.
Said that 90 percent of liver transplants that have been practiced in the hospital have been funded by the Centre since it's patients with limited financial resources and a procedure of this nature costs one million 500 thousand pesos.
Understands that a programme of this nature should be under the protection of State so that you can survive and develop.
Castaños Guzmán referred the issue to be u000ainterviewed while he headed the first encounter with patients transplanted made yesterday by the Center for health in order to share with patients and their families on the occasion of Christmas. In the same present were top executives from the hospital and the Chief of the transplant program, Dr. Jiomar Figueroa.
He recalled that so far has been in hospital 14 liver transplants, 63 of kidney, bone marrow 27 and 25 of cornea.
Little support
"we have received no support, we have had to do everything alone, we have a volunteer doing raffles, festivals, organizing activities to raise funds to support this program," noted Castaños Guzmán.
Said that the Basic Plan of health of the Dominican Social security system does not include coverage for the liver and bone marrow transplant, and it envisages only the transplantation of kidney, but not in all cases, because many times they refuse the u000acoverage.
He added that the hospital and his team of transplant consisting of more than 20 professional feels very well with the achievements so far, but I would like to do more.
Recalled that they are patients who are alive thanks to the transplant received, because many of them had not been able to survive.
