The survey was carried out between January 12-18, 2012, among a thousand people from all provinces of the country, according to data provided by the firm's representative in the country, Bernardo Vega, who along with Alicia Ortega, from the SIN group, analyzed the data. Also on the panel, transmitted by TV channel, "Antena Latina", was political scientist Rosario Espinal from the United States.
According to the survey's analysis, Danilo Medina, from the governing PLD, rose seven points in the voters' intention over the last survey made by the same pollster in May of last year.
Mejía, however, dropped from 47% in May of 2011 to 44% in the survey presented yesterday, which also places the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC), the third political force in the country, in third place with 3%. The survey also highlights the fact that Medina obtained 52% over the 42% for Mejía in the perception among the Dominican population of who will win in the upcoming election.
The choice of Margarita Cedeño has been fundamental to the growth of Medina, adding perhaps 25%, mainly young people and women and followers of President Leonel Fernández.
Penn, Shoen & Berland say that 63 percent of those polled are confident that the Central Electoral Board will organize the elections reliable.
Rosario Espina stressed that the youth vote who was supporting Mejía in previous polls has moved towards Medina.
"The results of this survey reflect an increase of the "Medina voting intent," he said.
He argued that the preference for the PLD's candidate has climbed since while last year the PRD captured the discontent of the population against the Government, which then became "mired" this year by the internal divisions of the PRD, in reference to the disputes that exist between Mejia and Miguel Vargas.
