Pope accepts resignation of Bishop of California which had two sons

Los Angeles, Gabino Zavala, 60, Auxiliary Bishop resigned on Wednesday according to Canon law, which allows clergy to retire before age 75 - the normal age to do so-, if they are sick or through circumstances which already are not suitable for the post.
In a letter to the parishioners, the Archbishop of Los Angeles, José Gómez, said Zavala told in December that had two children who lived with the mother of both in a different State. Zavala subsequently submitted his resignation to Pope Benedict XVI.
The Archdiocese has offered both children spiritual as well as financial assistance to cover tuition fees, said Gomez in the widespread card in the blog of the service news Catholic of the Conference of bishops Catholic States u000aUnited.
Also Wednesday, the Pope appointed Monsignor Cirilio flowers to take over the Diocese of San Diego after the retirement of Bishop Robert Brom.
In 2007, Brom oversaw an out-of-court settlement by 198.1 million dollars with 144 people reported having suffered violation by priests. This arrangement at the time was the second largest of its kind since the outbreak in 2002 a scandal about priests involved in sexual offences in United States.
