The wife of Dominican President, Leonel Fernández was accompanied by the First Lady of Haiti, Elizabeth Debrosse de Préval as well as the local education minister, Joel Derosiers Jean Pierre, and other officials. They visited a shelter for refugee children in the Petionville neighborhood, located on one of the hills surrounding Port au Prince.
The children gave flowers to Cedeno, who toured one of three mobile schools donated by her office.
Cedeno encouraged children to continue attending schools where there are libraries to forget "all the bad stories."
"They should know that we are friends, but their best friends are books," she said when addressing children.
She also expressed her hope that these temporary schools would provide places for children to "play, sing, and be happy.”
The three schools donated by the Dominican First Lady are located in Port au Prince, Petionville and Tabarre (northern suburbs).
The first lady of Haiti, Elizabeth Debrosse de Préval guaranteed the attendance of children to the schools and said this represented "a clear and concrete signal" of support for affected children.
