The convicted men were sentenced to six days in jail in Najayo prison and payment of a fine of 100 times the minimum wage.
William de la Rosa and Justo Rivera are owners of the bar, El Furgn de las Fras, on Constitution Avenue in San Cristobal. They were found guilty by Judge Carmen Matos of producing noise at their establishment in excess of the maximum permitted decibels.
The defendants were found guilty of violating the law 64-99 of Environment regulations governing noise.
The first instance of a trial under this law was supported by Dr. Francia Calderon of the local Office of Environment after receiving complaints from local residents.
Caldern declared that this ruling is a precedent for the large number of people and institutions that continually damage the health of the population through noise pollution.
