Puerto Plata - Navarrete link road improvements to start this month

Minister of Public Works, Diaz Rua, confirmed that the improvements to the Navarrete/Puerto Plata highway will commence this month, although the exact date was not mentioned. No estimate of costs was suggested either.

The Minister was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Soco River Bridge in San Pedro de Macoris. He also talked about progress on the �Atlantic Boulevard,� the second stage of the Santo Domingo to Samana highway.

The condition of the Puerto Plata link to Navarrete came under scrutiny again at the weekend as more landslides were seen on the Navarrete-Altimira stretch, next to La China spot, after the heavy rains.

Local transport companies are demanding that surveyors be sent to asses the situation and make the road safe for residents and vehicles passing through.

Many promises have been made about improvements to this important road and recently the President has confirmed that a new tunnel will also be constructed.
