Louise (Luisa) Nicole Gaudreault, originally from Lac St. Jean, had been stabbed in the neck and chest with a pair of scissors.
The 54-year-old woman had been living in the Dominican Republic for the past 25 years, running a horse renting business for tourists.
The suspect apparently felt Ms. Gaudreault was responsible for the death of his friend, who was electrocuted while doing renovations at the woman's home.
Gaudreault's body was found by one of her employees. Her 25-year-old son, who still lives in the Dominican Republic, was in Quebec on vacation at the time of his mothers death.
Gaudreault is the second person from Quebec to be killed in the Dominican Republic in the last few months. In January, Jean Gagn, 41, was shot to death while on vacation in Sosua, not far from Gaudreault's ranch in Cabarete.
