Rafael Correa plans to visit Cuba in 2012

The Ecuador President, Rafael Correa, plan a visit to Cuba next year, said yesterday in Havana the Minister for Foreign Affairs, trade and integration Ecuadorian, Ricardo Patiño.

"We are preparing the next coming of President Correa for next year," he told the Ecuadorian Minister journalists after holding official discussions with Cuban Minister Bruno Rodriguez, on subjects of relations bilateral, trade and migration, among others.

Correa was last in Cuba last July to visit his fellow Venezuelan, Hugo Chávez, who received treatment for a cancerous tumor that was operated on the island.

Patiño noted that since the arrival of Correa to the Presidency of Ecuador "we have made significant progress in the relationship with Cuba" and considered that there are many issues in which both countries it can "complement", including culture, economy, the u000asocial development, health, education, and agriculture.

On the migration aspect said that "there are some issues to be overcome" and both parties have been willing to their consular offices "gather in January for an immigration agreement".

In January of this year, the Ecuadorian and Cuban Foreign Ministers agreed to improve cooperation between the two countries in migration, after it was discovered more than 100 cases of marriages arranged in Quito so the Islanders to achieve visa.

There have also been cases of Cubans living in Ecuador in a limbo migration, because the Government of Cuba has withdrawn them the condition of residents to remain more than eleven months out of the island and in Ecuador have not been able to obtain a visa to legally live there.

Consulted on the issue, Minister Patiño said that in Ecuador "get people from all over the world in our country but of course respecting" u000a"our laws," indicated.

But clarified that "is not delete the entry of Cuban citizens but to treat things so regularize some matters and we do not have problems in this regard".

On concrete projects noted that they are working on the possibility of creating some plants of generics and exchange experiences on the basis of certain products agricultural.

Patiño and the Cuban justice, María Esther Reus, Minister signed Thursday an agreement for collaboration on counsel in matters criminal.
