The government will invest 358 million pesos under the Solidarity Program to strengthen the health sector. This was announced on Saturday by the Vice President, Rafael Alburquerque.

He added that these resources will be invested in improving physical infrastructure, as well as  medical staff, nurses and health workers who will be working in the Primary Care Units throughout the country .

He stressed that by 2012, one hundred percent of the poor and indigent will be covered by the subsidized regime of National Health Insurance (SENASA ) and that this plan has the determined support of President Leonel Fernandez.

Alburquerque made the remarks during a visit to see the work being done by  members of the Family Centers in the  Solidarity Program in Enriquillo region.
He urged members of the Centers for Family Solidarity to promote social improvements among the beneficiaries of the Solidarity Program by receiving instruction in the workshops organized by the Program in education and health.
"Serve as multipliers of everything learned in these workshops, and in that way, poor families who receive the benefits of Solidarity are clearly educated and aware of the tools that will allow their children grow up healthy and receive appropriate education," said the Vice President.

Alburquerque said that currently there are 12,500 centers  throughout the country, each one is composed of 45 people who are community leaders and heads of families.
