RD$4 million per month electricity fraud uncovered

The executive vice president of the Dominican Corporation of State Electrical Companies (CDEEE), Celso Marranzini, revealed today that they have uncovered an electrical fraud worth four million pesos per month committed by a company in Santo Domingo.

Marranzini identified the company as Templastisa, located on the Mella highway, Santo Domingo East. The stolen energy was apparently also being fed to a gas station, several homes and also to buildings occupied by the city council.. He said that about 125Kw was being used illegally, which is enough to supply 200 to 300 homes.

CDEEE vice-president announced that they will bring charges of fraud and try to apply the full weight of the law to the owner of the company.

Marranzini disclosed the information during a meeting with  President Leonel Fernandez, where progress in the electricity sector was discussed with various officials from the industry.

He warned that anyone who stole electricity would be punished to the fullest extent of the law and urged people to abandon the practice.
