The rescue and subsequent arrests of the perpetrators took place this morning in Sosua, when Canadians Imad Ibrahim, 29, and Nicholas Laquis, 32, were rescued by authorities after they were able to thwart the delivery of the ransom. This happened when one of the victims, accompanied by one of the captors, was taken to a casino to collect the ransom.
At that point, Ibrahim was rescued and his captor, Raffy Matos Silverio was arrested. The kidnappers then released the other Canadian who they had kept as "collateral."
Police said that following up the case, the other kidnap victim, Laquis was found in Calle Alejo Martinez in El Batey, Sosua.
Ricardo Chinden (Ricky), another of the kidnappers was later arrested in Calle Costa Rica in El Batey.
According to police, they are now looking for Luis ("The Barbarian") and "Chiqui" who are also involved in the kidnapping of the Canadians in Calle Pedro Clisante. Police say they are armed and kidnapped the men using a white Suzuki jeep and death threats.
The two Canadians arrived in the Dominican Republic on February 25 and were staying in a hotel in Sosua until they were due to leave on March 18.
