Rise to 26 those killed in accidents during the Christmas

The center of emergency operations (COE) reported yesterday that the number of people killed in the Christmas period amounted to 26, of which 24 were traffic accidents and two in poisoning alcoholic.

While that the wounded as a result of quarrels and other types of attacks, and the victims of traffic accidents, including three children admitted to the children's hospital Robert Reid Cabral with trauma by motorcycle accident, remain occupied beds for internment in major hospitals in the capital, after being cared for in the areas of emergency during Christmas Eve and Christmas.

Also occupied space in the medical care patients with alcohol and food poisoning which only in two hospitals reached 109 patients.

According to the third report of the institution, the registration of persons during the Christmas period came to 587, figure significant to be compared with the u000astatistics from the same period in the previous year, when 247 people were affected.

El 54 per cent of deaths from traffic accidents was by motorcycles. General Juan Manuel Mendez, director of the COE, indicated that during the period were 330 traffic accidents, in which affected 467 people.

Of this total, 349 correspond to light vehicles, seven cases to heavy goods vehicles and 111 to motorcycles. The second phase of "Operation Christmas Eve" will start next Friday 30 at noon and will conclude the first Sunday of January at 8: 00 in the evening.
