Robbery and shooting in Costa Azul

Two French nationals were shot and wounded by unknown assailants at 2am on Jan 6 after an evening with friends.

The attack happened at the residence of Bernard and Myriam Vaganey, owner of a Cabarete minimarket.
According to witnesses, when Mr Vaganey opened the electric gate to his house to let his guests out, two masked men with revolvers appeared.

At least two shots were fired by the men, hitting Mr Vaganey in the right arm, and a friend of the couple, Martine Pupille in the right foot. A Rottweiler owned by the Vaganeys chased off the men who had snatched the bags and jewelry from the women.

All the guests took refuge in the house, and the police were called, but apparently the men did not go away.

They were able to call for an ambulance from the Centro Medico Cabarete, meanwhile two of the other guests, Martine Perrier and Yannick Charles scrambled into their car to find the police.

Witnesses say that the robbers still hung around the scene, and it was only when more friends of the couple, including Gigi Bouga, arrived with guns were they able to scare the robbers away.
The incident is being investigated as attempted murder.
