Santiago dominates cultivation

Viewed 28 times.The executive director of the tobacco Institute (Intabaco), Lorenzo Fernandez, said that cultivation brings 84,210 direct in the Santiago province and near RD jobs $3 billion per year for sale at farm, processing, manufacturing, marketing and packaging.
It specified that between 250,000 and 214,000 people they depend on annually this crop for their livelihood.
Santiago province has 1,046,182 inhabitants, according to projections for 2010 for the National Bureau of statistics, and ranks first in the production, processing, processing and export of tobacco at Dominican Republic.
Added that the latest tobacco companies census that Santiago has 84% of the factories of cigarettes legally established in the country.
