"Europe is facing a very dangerous situation" and "the risk of explosion has never been so big" because the euro does not inspire confidence that it should and the European Union concerned rather than protect, said Sarkozy before the Congress of the European people's Party (EPP) ending yesterday in Marseille.
In his view, "the conclusions are simple: more solidarity and more discipline in the euro area, more governance", but that must decide "soon" because it more later, minor will be the effectiveness and added in that context: "we have a few weeks to decide, because time is working against us".
A few hours from the beginning in Brussels for the meeting of leaders of the Eurogroup, to be followed today by the Council u000aEuropean, Sarkozy returned to his idea that we "need to re-found Europe" and justified the initiative launched by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, for "a reform of the treaties" because for a change of openwork not just "a small Protocol".
Said that the Franco-German will be involving all members of the European Union on the reform, "but if there are lock 27 inside, we then turn to 17, the States of the single currency, because"we run the risk of immobility".
French President justified once more that has been his country and Germany which have taken the initiative because without an agreement between the two "a commitment impossible" in the whole of the EU
Recalled the historical background of confrontation between France and Germany and their geographical location "we have no choice, or the convergence or divergence." Is not claim more rights than others, but u000a"we have more duties than others".
The head of the French State considered that when was created the euro "there were two very serious mistakes," the first "wanting a single currency without economic governance", and the second that some countries were admitted "when they were not prepared".
Also used to launch some Puya to the European Commission, complaining that the rules of competition do not protect Europeans from the arrival of products which "do not respect any of the rules that we ask our producers".
"Yes to competition, no to protectionism, but to fair competition" which implies "reciprocity" and that "is an essential item," stressed.
Sarkozy claimed, on the same line "to talk of a genuine industrial policy" in the EU and we resucitemos"no debate" over whether the construction of Europe must be more federalist or more intergovernmental.
Sarkozy speech before the Congress of the EPP preceded to the of u000aMerkel. In the latter part of the meeting is scheduled for the future President of the Spanish Government, Mariano Rajoy, who will meet with the two separately.
