Security and Health agencies ready for Holy Week

The agencies of the Emergency Operations Center (COE) have allocated 39,451 staff from various institutions to provide this cover in various areas of the country in the Operational Plan for Life Easter 2010.
"We have now five mobile kitchens that will be deployed at strategic points. These mobile kitchens will be supplying food for the emergency personnel who will be operating throughout," said Edwin Olivares, manager of operations of the COE. The National Police will distribute 30 thousand rations of food for its officers during this time.
There will be 127 ambulances available, 2, 461 aid posts located at strategic locations, 12 doctors and 3 mobile hospitals, and three air units ordered by the Ministry of the Armed Forces, among other facilities.
The Dario Contreras healthcenter has discharged patients who can receive the treatment at home, with the objective of maintaining as many beds as possible for the anticipated increased need during Holy Week.
Visitors from places like the United Kingdom and Canada, where Easter is associated with fluffy chicks and bunny rabbits, may be forgiven for a degree of nervousness when they read the press reports of preparation for the event here.
In recent days we have heard reports from all sectors of public service. Nurses are to delay strikes so as to be available in the hospitals, motorized waterspouts are banned, some beaches are closed, public transport is under scrutiny, 119,000 extra police are on the streets, a hard line is to be taken with traffic law violations and political campaigning has been suspended, by some at least.
