Several buildings cracked in San José de Ocoa after Quake
posted on: Jan 5 2012 10:41 by The Reporter. Viewed 166 times.Several buildings in San José de Ocoa cracked after the earthquake that occurred early this morning in the Dominican Republic and had its epicenter in this city.
It has been confirmed that the strong tremor caused cracking in the buildings of the Association for the Development of Ocoa (ADESCO), the educational district 03-03, and the hotel restaurant El Balcón, located on Avenida Cánada on the corner of San José.
Also in the building that houses the Southern Co-operative (Coopcentral), located in Calle Andrés Pimentel, on the corner of Duvergé, in the Roman Catholic Church, some small cracks have appeared in the kitchen and other places.
In San José de Ocoa, the epicenter of the quake, fear gripped residents, who screamed and woke neighbors while items in their houses fell from shelves.
Many people ran outside to the streets to avoid danger.
The tremor with a magnitude of 5.3 degrees on the Richter scale, occurred at 5: 35am in the morning and so far there have been no reported injuries.

75 km (46 miles) ENE of Barahona, Dominican Republic
99 km (61 miles) S of San Francisco de Macoris, D.R.
1295 km (804 miles) SE of Miami, Florida
