Francis García Suárez was arrested dressed as a policeman
at Los Próceres Avenue near the Botanical gardens in the Capital. He was allegedly using the fake checkpoint to demand money at gunpoint from passing motorists.
The preliminary police report states that the soldier was accompanied by two men known only as Juan Ernesto and Kinkón who were also dressed in police uniform and carrying weapons, but they managed to escape in a gray Toyota Camry.
Suárez has admitted to taking part in a number of similar offences around the National District and other provinces. The report says he also seized a truck from a Haitian owner a month ago and sold it for RD$10,000 in San Pedro de Macoris.
