While in Dominican Republic there is risk of earthquake, the country is not ready to face an important magnitude earthquake contingency and relief agencies do not have the resources to respond to the contingencies that could occur, according to the geologist Osiris de Leon.

De Leon says that the country could produce one phenomenon more than 8.1 that struck the country in 1946, because, he said, when events like this occur any time can produce another of equal or greater magnitude.

"Must understand that we live in a country of seismic risk." A country where can produce tidal waves, where in summer time we can have a hurricane, a storm, trough, or a great flood and, therefore, relief agencies should be prepared with educational plans for citizenship and the schools that the children know what to do before, during and after of a u000a"earthquake" adds De Leon.

Said, moreover, that the earthquake that occurred yesterday of 5.2 degrees, shows that people don't know what to do, because they immediately entered into panic.

"Occur when the quake nationwide entered panic. Unfortunately the authorities are not prepared, one would like to be prepared, but it is not." It is very difficult to find a school where made evacuation plans, Civil Defense and the COE do not have equipment to rescue. "If there is an earthquake of magnitude greater than seven, and falling hundreds or thousands of buildings there with what remove debris" added De Leon, who assures that the weakness of the relief agencies is that you do not receive sufficient financial resources to respond to emergencies that occur in the country.

Authorities
on their side, the Deputy director of the center of operations in emergencies (COE), José Luis Germán, said that u000ainstitution has a contingency Plan which was created to provide guidance to the population, and other institutions on how to act in an emergency.

Germán noted, however, that, for the time being, this plan only covers the region South and North of the country because, said, if an event happens more these regions would be the more affected.

explained that in these regions have been distributed brochures in schools to educate students on how action to an earthquake or other eventuality.

The plan was created in 2010 by scientific institutions and response as the National Bureau of meteorology (ONAMET), the Dominican Red Cross, Civil Defense, the seismological Institute, the National Institute of water resources, the Ministry of the armed forces, among other institutions more.

Germán

also said that on the page the COE wed, www.coe.gov.do, there are several recommendations aimed at the population u000aof how it should act in the event that an earthquake to occur.

people's views
yesterday, panic gripped many people who took to the streets in fear at the thought that a similar event that happened in Haiti in the year 2009, while others maintained calm could occur in the country and stayed in their homes.

"I stayed quiet in bed, not left." All the neighbors came out but I did not, because I am not going to hide from God. Wherever I am if I will grab something, I will grab. That is God's work. "We must be prepared to wait for all of God" believes Olegario LeBron, a private security guard.

On their side, the student Francis Hernandez, said he was frightened because she thought it was going to see an earthquake as it did in Haiti.

"My first reaction was to get up, a little surprised because this is not normal." I left out, already the neighbors had raised. Everybody was u000ascared because around this date was to have spent the earthquake in Haiti. In this country there is a culture of caution, and infrastructure are not prepared for an event as well. The Government should start to raise awareness among citizens so that they know what to do in that situation. I all I know is that I should put me under a door, or table but basically that. "There is no guidance," said Hernández.
