Spain opens Chair of Dominican literature

The rector of the University of Salamanca, Daniel Hernández Ruipérez, and the Minister of culture of the Dominican Republic, José Rafael Lantigua, yesterday ratified the agreement for the creation of this Chair that will bear the name of one of the most distinguished intellectuals Dominican, Pedro Henríquez Ureña.
To the Minister, the Chair and the development of seminars and meetings between writers and experts from both countries, will serve to "contribute to strengthening the presence of a valuable literature and of great importance in its context". In view of Lantigua, the literature of his country "has not had enough nor host projection, neither Spain nor the European continent". For this reason, was pleased by u000athe agreement with the salmantine University, which will result in the development of actions for the promotion, knowledge, and the projection of Dominican literature in Spain.
The rector of the USAL recalled that the agreement is framed between the objectives of development of the Campus of international excellence "Studii Salmantini", as it is international inter-university cooperation and the recruitment of talents "to cooperate in research and teaching". In addition various annual seminars taught by Dominican teachers will be developed within the framework of the Convention, will be held lectures on the literature of that country with the presence of European and Dominican specialists.
Also will create a program of research and development of the Dominican in Spain literature and promote lines of study on the culture of the country American with an annual meeting of writers.

Pedro Henríquez Ureña (1884-1946) was the author of numerous works, some recognised internationally, as "Six trials in search of our expression" (1928), or "Literary currents in Hispanic America" (1945), first systematization in the literary evolution in the continent American.
