Students from the CURA -UASD University left classes and blocked the road from 9:00am to 11:00am in protest at the authorities failure to meet demands made by the students a year ago.
The action was taken by the Dominican Student groups; Vanguardia Estudiantil Dominicana (VED), the Frente Estudiantil Flavio Suero (FEFLAS), the Frente Estudiantil Dominicano Socialista (FEDS) and the Movimiento Independiente Estudiantil de Liberacin (Miel).
The blockade was eventually lifted after discussions with party members from the PRD and PRSC and Colonels Leo Minaya and Felix Fortuna from the police.
The students have been asking for AMET agents to patrol in front of the University, increased police surveillance from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and the placement of speed bumps and traffic signs and also traffic lights to allow students to cross the road safely.
They are also demanding a medical clinic for students and teachers and a bus service for students from outlying districts.
