Supplies of milk and juice suspended from all schools

The Education Minister has ordered the suspension of the supply of milk and juice for the school breakfast for the rest of the year in all schools to prevent further cases of poisoning.

Melanio Paredes made the decision yesterday after 11 more children were taken ill at R�o Grande Abajo school in Altamira, Puerto Plata. Also, on Tuesday, there were seven cases in F�lix Antonio Robles school in Los Corales de Yerba Buena, Santiago.

"It is better that students eat their biscochito and drink water until we can restore the conditions acceptable to the health of children, we prefer that they eat nothing and do not get sick or die," he said.

The official described as worrying the  new cases of sick children, despite monitoring and despite the withdrawal of Ladom milk already.

He said he has held meetings with businesses who supply school meals to ask them to monitor and ensure the quality of the products offered.
