The Dominican Republic will participate as a “Guest Nation” in this year’s Moscow International Tourism Fair, to be held from March 21- 24.

The Dominican delegation will carry out a series of special activities during the event to highlight the country’s many tourism attractions.

The Ministry of Tourism will participate with a “Dominican Republic Day” stand, to acquaint visitors and exhibitors with the country’s traditions and culture.

Last year, more than 120,000 Russian tourists visited the Dominican Republic, a 58% increase from the previous year.

This figure represents a 58% growth in comparison to 2010 figures, where the number of Russian visitors that year was 76,059.

The number of Russian tourists in the Dominican Republic represents 3.26% of the overall number of visitors that traveled during the year to the country.

Currently, the Punta Cana International Airport, the largest in the country, is handling 12 weekly flights from Russia on Boeing 747s.

Nine are handled by the airliner Transaero, and three by Aeroflot.

The flights will continue until April.

Surveys indicate that Punta Cana has become a favorite destination for Russian tourists.

However, in the past few years an important community made up of Russian citizens, has been established in the country’s north coast.
