The new conditions of HIV decreases by 25 %

The representative of UNAIDS for Dominican Republic and Cuba, Ana María Navarro, explained that although they have a decrease in new infections of the virus in the country, it must increase investment in prevention, as is focusing more on the treatment.
Stated that there are also decrease of death by AIDS and that more person has access to treatment. He said that the country currently live in 54 000 people with the virus HIV and 34 million to level world.
Revealed that one of the biggest challenges is the reduction of funding of the response which depends on international funds. He explained that you planned the need of 24 billion dollars for the global HIV response and only 2010 existed u000a15 trillion.
He said that the country has been catalogued by the World Bank as a low-income country middle high which limits much the flow of resources external to the country.
He argued that the social security system has the resources to meet the cost of the treatment of the epidemic, so it considered that the State should assume responsibility.
Also details that around 12,000 adults and children contracted HIV in 2010, compared to 19 thousand 2001.
Says that AIDS-related deaths were reduced significantly from 18,000 in 2001 to nine thousand in 2010. However considers that notwithstanding the progress made, the Caribbean continues to have the second regional (0.9%) highest HIV prevalence after sub-Saharan Africa.
