The UN Assembly supports Fernández

Viewed 18 times.The United Nations General Assembly adopted yesterday in the afternoon, by consensus, the draft resolution presented by Dominican Republic, based on the initiative of President Leonel Fernandez to address the financial speculation in the markets of the future of oil and food.
After two months and a half of intensive work by the Dominican delegation to this body, the General Assembly recognized "the initiative of Mr Leonel Fernández Reyna, President of the Dominican Republic, on the promotion of an international consensus to reduce the excessive volatility of prices and speculation in the commodity markets".
Sanctioned resolution stresses the need to take active measures to reduce excessive volatility in the prices of food, while acknowledging that their causes are not sufficiently understood and should be further explored. He stressed "the need to promote greater" u000a"transparency and the information of the markets at all levels."
Assembly General of the United Nations, to welcome the initiative of Fernandez, appealed to the Universal Declaration of human rights, it provides that everyone has the right to an adequate standard of living that will ensure the health and well-being.
Underlines the importance for all countries obtain timely, accurate and transparent information to help address the excessive volatility of the prices of food, and takes note of the information system on agricultural market, established by the UN food and agriculture.
Urged the participating international organizations, the agents of the private sector and Governments to ensure publicly disseminate quality information and timely on the markets for food.
Countries members of the General Assembly invited the relevant UN agencies and others u000ainternational entities, in particular the United Nations food and Agriculture and the United Nations Conference on trade and development, as well as to other UN agencies, to participate actively in the high-level thematic debate and to continue studying and analysing the issue.
