Dozens of women marching yesterday to the National Palace in claims that the country is declared in a State of emergency by gender-based violence, which this year has claimed the lives of 211 women at the hands of their partners or former partners. The activity was in commemoration to the day international for the Elimination of the violence against the woman.

Supported by students and some men, women were concentrated against the independence Park, where they raised their voice of protest, performed dramatizations and carried placards which call for equality and respect, to then go to the National Palace.

Although they were not allowed to reach the House of Government, women gathered in the Park which is located in the Mexico Avenue corner on March 30, where a fence was mounted police.

After a long conversation with agents, a Commission integrated by Ruth Medrano, Rosa Elena Moreno and María de Orbe gave the manifesto with its claims u000aDeputy Minister of the Presidency, Sandra Severino, who promised to make him get the document to the President of the Republic.

The groups include the circle of women with disabilities (CIMUDIS), the center of solidarity for the development of women, (CE-MUJER), the National Confederation of peasant women (Conamuca), the Research Centre for women's action, the collective of organizations of Santo Domingo Norte, among other areas, such as Boca Chica and the municipalities that make up the greater Santo Domingo.

Juana Mercedes, CONAMUCA, said that with the manifesto call upon President Leonel Fernandez declared the country in a State of emergency because, in terms of health, mortality from violence exceeds "outweigh all diseases under epidemiological control in the country."
