They aspire to eradicate this year vertical transmission of HIV

The director-general of the infection Control of STD and AIDS (Digecitss) of the Ministry of public health, Luis Ernesto happy Baez, said yesterday that the conditions are given for this year in the country reduce to zero the vertical transmission of HIV and the Elimination of congenital syphilis.

Said that those are the main goals of health authorities and for that purpose was recently the launch of the strategy of mother and child national of elimination of the transmission Handbook of HIV and syphilis congenital in the country, with the support of the Government of United States.

The director of the Digecitss, said that the plans were initiated with the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the implementation of that strategy between the Minister of public health, Bautista Rojas Gomez, and the American Ambassador Raul H. Yzaguirre.

Said that the strategy is intended to reduce the maternal infant transmission of HIV to u000aless than two per cent and the incidence of congenital syphilis to less than 0.5 cases for every 1,000 born alive

Happy Báez reported that the strategy will be implemented in 16 hospitals scattered throughout the country who have coverage for about 80% of all pregnant women, including Jaime Mota, Barahona; Alejandro Cabral, San Juan de La Maguana, and 19 March, Azua.

In the northern region will be in the hospitals of Bonao, La Vega, Santiago, Dajabón and Santiago Rodríguez.
