Members of the environmental police accompanied by military imprisoned 27 Dominicans and nine Haitians who were caught cutting down trees in the forested area of domínico-haitiana Dajabón frontier for burning coal.

Ministry of environment reported that also seized the detainees 215 sacks of coal that would be sold in Haiti, which incinerated.

Dominicans and Haitians were detained during an operation led by authorities of the environmental police and the national service for environmental protection (Senpa).

The operation used a helicopter and military personnel sent from Santo Domingo.

Environmental and military authorities said that those arrested were brought to justice for rape to protection of the environment and natural resources law 64-00.

Coal seized by authorities was detected in furnaces that operated clandestinely in communities u000aLarge coral, the streams, Cañongo and Sabana Larga of Dajabón province.

While that in the communities of La Peñita and Monte Grande, Loma de Cabrera, environmental officials and the military destroyed several furnaces for burning coal. Coal was cremated in the same places where the environmental law violation was detected.
