They kill five musicians in attack on Mexico

A masked man who shot Saturday against a band of Norteño music in a ballroom of a city in the State of Chihuahua killed five musicians and four customers, and injured 10 people most.

Carlos Gonzalez, spokesman for the Office of Justice of Chihuahua, said that the attack apparently had as main objective the fifth band member, but pointed out that the reason for the events which occurred in the early hours of Saturday were not clear. The attacker took place about 40 shots with a high-caliber weapon in the disco Far West.

One of the dead was a woman police off duty, said González.

Singers of Norteño music in Mexico have been targets of attacks before apparently by getting involved with gangs of drug traffickers that pay them for composing narcocorridos, or ballads that glorify leaders of these criminal organisations.

Persons who answered calls from the AP to phones u000acell phones in the name of the fifth band identified themselves as relatives of the musicians, but refused to provide their names.

The band had reduced his workload, covering sometimes quirky festivals in ranchos, due to growing drug trafficking-related violence in this border State.

The fifth band on MySpace account shows mostly love songs and festivities.

Also on Saturday, the federal police announced the capture of a leader of one of the armed bands hired by the most powerful drug trafficker in the world Joaquín Guzmán, known as "El Chapo".

José Antonio Torres Marrufo, 33-year-old is suspected of being the leader of Gente Nueva, an armed wing of the Sinaloa cartel established p.rincipalmente in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Federal police officers arrested Torres on Friday along with his bodyguard in the city of León, Guanajuato, in the Centre of the country.
