The Director General of Internal Taxes (DGII) will open the process for renewal of road tax on motor vehicles as of August 19th of this month until November 19 this year.

There will be 268 locations where the tax may be paid. These include branches of: Savings and Loan Associations, Banks BDI, BDA, ADEMI, Vimenca, Banco Federal, Las Amricas, Multipago Expreso, Adopem and tax collection offices in Las Terrenas, Pedernales, Jiman , Villa Vasquez , Samana and Sanchez.

Germania Monts Yapur, deputy director-general of the DGII said that the projected revenues from road vehicle tax this year was RD$1,382 million.
He said the cost would be the same as in recent years; RD$1,200 for vehicles older than 2005 and RD$2,200 for vehicles from 2006 onwards .

The announcement was made at the headquarters of the DGII in the presence of the director of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (AMET), Major General Jos Anbal Sanz Jiminn, who reminded everyone that the law requires all vehicles to have a current "placa" clearly displayed.

The DGII warned that after the end of the campaign on November 19, 2010, the tax could only be paid at  DGII offices, with a penalty for late renewals of RD$600.
