A day like today, in 1959, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) adopted the Declaration of the rights of the child. And also a day like today, in 1989, was approved the Convention on the rights of the child.
The history of this day began in 1954, when the General Assembly recommended by resolution 836 (IX) that all countries should the Universal Children's day. The date "devoted to brotherhood and understanding among children around the world and would be allocated to activities to promote the well-being of children around the world." At first it was suggested that each Government held the day on the date that deems convenient, but was then established the 20th of this month as the Universal Children's day.
The date took much relevance since the holding of the Millennium Summit in 2000, because among the eight goals of development of the MDGs (MDG) drawn up by the leaders u000aGlobal was the achievement of universal primary education by 2015 and in general the objectives referred to the children.
