The two men were American doctors, the only people in the R44 helicopter (registration N7535-F, U.S) flying from Port au Prince.
The Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) reported last night that they have been unable to determine the cause of the crash as the wreckage has been destroyed by fire.
The ship, which was used to rescue victims of the earthquake that devastated Port au Prince, crashed at 7:00 pm, according to official reports, in an area easily accessible to rescuers, who were able to reach the scene very quickly.
