UN praises Fernandez for Haiti conference
posted on: Jun 7 2010 9:6 by Royston. Viewed 299 times.United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon has congratulated President Leonel Fernandez on the success of the World Summit on the future of Haiti, Solidarity Beyond the Crisis, held in Punta Cana last Wednesday.

Reiterating the commitment of the United Nations to Haiti, Ban Ki-Moon expressed his appreciation for the leadership role played by President Fernandez and the Dominican Republic in Haiti restructuring plans.
Through a telephone conversation with the head of the Dominican government, the UN Secretary General expressed his desire that the Dominican Republic joins the Interim Commission on Recovery in Haiti, reaffirming the proposal of the Prime Minister of Haiti, Jean Max Bellerive.
He thanked Fernandez for organizing the high quality event and highlighted the results obtained with specific goals on the projects to be undertaken in the devastated country.
"We congratulate the Dominican Republic for their presence from the first moment of the earthquake, and the solidarity shown to the people of Haiti," was the final message to the Dominican people in the conversation on Saturday with Fernandez.
The World Summit on the Future of Haiti: Solidarity beyond the crisis was an event broadcast on five continents, in six languages simultaneously via satellite.
