The UN recognition will be received by President Leonel Fernandez in a ceremony to be held in Dominican Chancery, said Valerie Julliand , representative of the United Nations in the country.
Julliand said that Dominican Republic mobilized help for the Haitians immediately after the earthquake of Jan.12 and not only the authorities responded but also the private sector and the general public.
She said that the assistance of the Dominicans was not limited only to the emotion of the moment as it continues unabated until today .
She stressed the significance of the Dominican government allowing all international workers who came to assist Haiti including Haitian workers who had lost their passports, to enter Dominican territory without a visa or permit.
"And those two facts are very important, in my many years of humanitarian work I have never seen such support at this level, because letting people enter the country without visas and without a passport in the case of Haitian workers who had lost everything in the earthquake, is a very generous act," said Julliand in a press interview.
