La Union national sugar (Unazúcar) called the attention of the security of the State authorities to investigate facts involving this week in which unknown assailants burned more than 7,000 tons of cane in the ingenio Barahona, so that those responsible are caught and subjected to justice.

Caesar Heredia, who chairs the sugar trade union organization, recalled that in the 2010 harvest produced similar events that led to the intervention of the police authorities, to the possibilities of this criminal practice to jeopardize the success of the harvest, action which resulted in the arrest of more than 30 people who were subjected to justice.

Unazucar spokesman stressed the strategic importance which, as a company, has the ingenio Barahona to the South of the country due to the economic and social contributions received by the inhabitants of that region, in areas essential to its development.
