The U.S. Marines, commanded by Sergeant David Zukowikz, joined residents of the community in an intense day of work that lasted for several hours.
Other crew members participating in community action were Bill Frex, Timothy Flores Adams, Steve Craig, Deborah Reed, Victoria Stevens, Sam Bianchi, Jonathan Javier, Francis Berthedum, Jeff Milgate, Andrew Haak, Tonjuin Pecorilla, David Watkins, Cesar Almonte, and another sailor identified only as Leonard.
The USCGC Seneca, has a crew of 145 sailors and its home port is in Boston, Massachusetts. It is used by US Coast Guards in rescue operations and to combat human trafficking, drug trafficking and other crimes.
Apparently the sailors regularly engage in community work when they are in foreign ports.
During the days work, the sailors were joined by the manager of the Cabarete Dreams Project, Kevin Manning, who also helped with plastering the ceiling of the community center.
Manning said after the American sailors, the project will be helped for 2 days by a group of students from the Fenway High School, which is in Boston, near the famous Red Sox Fenway Park baseball stadium.
He explained that the Coast Guards Community action in Cabarete and other places is coordinated by Cabarete Dreams Project and the U.S. Embassy.
