U.S. highlights the role of the OAS

During his accustomed press conference daily, the spokesman for the Department of State, Mark Toner, avoided directly commenting on the validity of the community of Latin American countries and Caribbean (CELAC), which will be launched this weekend in a presidential in the capital Summit venezolana.
"There are many subregional organizations in the hemisphere;" "some of which we belong and to others, such as this, not", said Toner.

On Thursday, the OAS welcomed the Celac, a new continental entity of which are u000aexcluding the US and Canada.
The Celac, promoted by the Venezuela President, Hugo Chávez, emerged as a body purely Latin American and Caribbean, U.S. and Canada, and as heir to the Rio Group and of the Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean on integration and development (CALC).
