The President of the governorate of the Vatican City said today that the allegations on "corruption and mismanagement" contained in the missives sent by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigno to Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican administration are the result of "erroneous assessments".

The President of the governorate of the Vatican City - the Government manages the State - so said in a statement issued today.

"After a careful review of the content of the two missives, President of the governorate considers his duty publicly declare that the assertions made therein are the result of erroneous, ratings or are based on fears not supported by evidence, but largely contradicted by the main personalities invoked as witnesses", said the governorate.

the existence of the missives written by Viganó, current nuncio of the Holy see in the USA and former Secretary general of the governorate, the Pope came to light to u000aend of the month of January.

"Corriere della Sera" and "Libero Quotidiano" newspapers published extracts from letters, whose content was first publicized by the by the presenter of the program "Gli Intoccabili" (untouchables), private television channel La7, Gianluigi Nuzzi.

según Nuzzi, Italian Archbishop of 70 years, sent a letter to Pope Benedict XVI on 27 March 2011 in which lamented "the corruption and privileges" that he had seen since assuming the post of Secretary general of the governorate in July 2009.

In another letter, according to "Corriere della Sera", Viganó wrote: "Would have never thought to find me a very disastrous situation," which despite being "unimaginable was known to all the Curia".

The Archbishop further alleged that the Vatican "always work the same companies to double the (cost) than others, since there is no transparency in the management of contracts of" u000a"construction and engineering".

Viganó also denounced bankers, members of the so-called "Committee of finance and management" worry over their interests "which of our" and that in December 2009 in a financial transaction "burned (lost) $ 2.5 million".

the prelate told the Pope that during his Administration managed to move the Vatican from eight and a half million of losses in 2009 to a profit of 34.4 million in 2010 in their missives.

In its statement disclosed today, the Presidency of the governorate expressed his "great bitterness" for all such claims and expressed his "full confidence and esteem the illustrious members of the finance and Management Committee".

Also stressed that the balance sheets of the governorate, after being approved by the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State, undergo way regularly to the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See.

Recalled also that u000afinancial investments of the governorate, which dealt with external managers, suffered "relevant losses during the 2008 international crisis, (...)" "that it were circulated also in 2009 exercise, which recorded a liability of EUR 7.815.000"

In this regard, noted that the pace of losses in 2009 to earnings in 2010 can be attributed "mainly to two factors: the management of financial investments to the excellent results obtained from the Vatican museums and the governorate"
