Violent protests are once again erupting on the streets of the capital and other areas where the prolonged periods without electricity are disrupting businesses and family life.

Neighborhoods in the South West of Santo Domingo have seen blackouts of 20 hours or more and now protesters have been burning tires in the streets and setting up roadblocks, although there are no reports of any arrests.

There have also been disturbances in Hermanas Mirabal, Duarte, Saman, San Pedro de Macoris and Barahona, where power cuts are the order of the day.

Darius Cameron, leader of the Alternative Social Forum (ASF), expressing concern about the situation, called on the authorities to stop the energy blackouts.

In Villa Estela, Barahona, there have been shoot-outs, rocks thrown by protesters and tear gas used by police according to local media reports. It is a similar story on the streets of Sanchez.

San Pedro de Macoris has also seen disturbances and there are reports of power cuts there lasting 24 hours.

lol - thats funny!
but why would they care?
doing what they are paid for has never been their agenda.
To get 24hr power you would need to pay off the boss $10mil into a private bank account, and offer big bribes to every single employee - otherwise forget it!
