During the protests several workers were injured by gunshot as they burned tires in the street, felled trees and stopped traffic on the road from Cotui to the mine.
Among the injured men were; Apolinar Reinoso, Rafael Antonio Ramirez and Serafin Felipe with wounds from shots fired by police trying re-open the road.
The injured were sent to the Inmaculada Concepcin hospital where they are still being treated.
At the mining compound, hundreds of Dominicans and Peruvian workers were chanting and shouting for Barrick Gold to comply with the law and give full employment benefits to men who have been fired by the company.
The workers accused the company of violating the Labor Code of the Dominican Republic, and said that if their demands are not, their protests will continue.
The miners' protests are supported by various local and national workers' groups including FALPO.
