Water levels dropping as drought continues
posted on: Feb 16 2010 8:48 by Royston. Viewed 521 times. The various government agencies responsible for water management have asked the Dominican population to "limit the maximum" use of water, due to the prolonged drought affecting much of the country.

We are all urged to think carefully before carrying out such activities as car washing, watering the garden and topping up the pool.
Following a meeting to monitor the level of the dams, managers of the relevant agencies held a press conference at the National Palace on Monday to explain that action is needed now.
Celso Marranzini, CDEEE vice president, acting as spokesman for the various government agencies, explained that up until now water levels in reservoirs were at an operable level.
Nevertheless, he said that, because of the drought, it is recommended that everyone control their use of water and that government agencies take measures to prevent wastage before the situation deteriorates.
He called for the media to help in the campaign to conserve this vital natural resource and to persuade Dominicans to change their habits of consumption.
The meeting and subsequent press conference were attended by heads of the National Institute of Water Resources, the Water and Sewerage Corporation of Santo Domingo, the Water and Sewerage Corporation of Santiago, the Dominican Electricity Generation Company and the Director of Meteorology, among other officials.
