Work stoppages and protests at start of classes

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) yesterday formally began her first semester of the year 2012 in indefinite paros, allegations of violations of their Organic Statute, protests by employees and students to receive education due to lack of seats.

The professors of the Faculty of engineering and architecture called yesterday in the morning to an indefinite work stoppage which affects more than five thousand students, both Headquarters and the centres regional.

Teachers are demanding the delivery of the power that is in the process of repair for months and the appointment of new teachers who have won contests. Also denounced continued violations to the professional status and University regulations by the Dean of that faculty, José Joaquín Reyes Acevedo, and the authorities of the Centre.

Likewise, the Ministry of welfare student of the Federation of students Dominicans (EDF), denounced the conduct of partisan political proselytism within the enclosure, in violation of the existing Organic Statute of the UASD.

The complaint was made by Claudio Caamaño, Secretary of student welfare, who assured that many teachers and authorities give use to political propaganda in violation of the Organic Statute, u000aincluding teachers, reportedly pledged favour with qualifications to students, giving them 10 to 15 points at the end of the semester, should win the candidate of their choice.

Since advertising on vehicles that penetrate to the campus, to loans of spaces to develop conferences and partisan activities, are denounced by the University.

The authorities of the UASD had yesterday press conference to publicize the situation of the ARS-UASD, but it was postponed for this Thursday.
