In Dominican Republic, a 10.2 per cent of the population suffers from hunger, which places the country in the third line of the Nations with poorer conditions in this area, in accordance with the overall rate of hunger, which also indicates that the island shares this position with Guatemala and Bolivía, and is surpassed in the region only by Haiti.

Information was released by members of world vision, within the framework of the launch of the campaign "stop hunger: causes a change", which according to the organizers, is an initiative that will run for the first time in 13 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, to motivate people to advocate for the right of everyone to be free from hunger.

The report also reveals that in Latin America and the Caribbean, more than 31 percent of the population, i.e., 177 million people are poor, and 55 million suffer from hunger, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in u000ahis figures of 2011.

People and culture of the Organization, director explained that 50 percent of the money and donations collected during the campaign that starts today, will be donated to communities of the province independence, which, he said, was chosen these communities by State of emergency affecting the inhabitants of the area caused by the flood of the Lake Enrriquillo.

"The other 50 percent will be donated to a global fund which had been established to reduce the impact of hunger in Africa, one of the continents most affected by this social scourge," indicated.

Also called organizations, churches, institutions, universities, schools, and the people in general, to support and carry out activities to raise donations for the project.

People interested in collaborating with the campaign can make donations through the site www.altoalhambre.org, where you will have access to a bank account, or u000aYou can join the activities that will be taking place, since according to Lourdes Perez, Manager of comprehensive development of children, "not all aid that want to give stakeholders, must be the money".
