Young people from  Pedro Garcia and Yásica walked 50Km through Friday night and arrived at 7:30am Saturday in Puerto Plata having started at 9:00pm the night before. Their pilgrimage for Holy Week to Puerto Plata's San Felipe Cathedral in Plaza Independencia was at the invitation of Bishop Julio Cesar Corniel Amaro.

Participants in the pilgrimage were received at the esplanade of the Jose Briceno baseball stadium, by Mayor Walter Musa , who gave them a cordial and warm welcome.

After this reception the pilgrims continued their route to Independence Square then moved to Cathedral San Felipe the Apostle, where Bishop Julio Cesar Corniel Amaro and several priestssan felipe cathedral officiated at a Mass in honor of the young.

Father Rubén Darío, Pastor of Yásica said the aim of the walk was to express to Puerto Plata and the world that although there is crime, injustice, lawlessness, rape, there are also serious Christian people, who express their faith in every act of life.

"We have made this walk of penance for the final days of Lent as part of the triumphant celebration of Easter Sunday and preparations for  Holy Week, which has a meaning of fasting, constant prayer and sacrifice for each of the participants," he said.

"We've made this sacrifice in response to that gift of faith in the Lord at Easter, So we are strong, and blessed," said the priest.
